Bar Chocolat by Pierre Hermé (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

For someone who's been following Pierre Hermé as long as I have, this trip to his famous dessert bar, Bar Chocolat, was really long overdue.

Located just a stone's throw from Omotesando, this is the Picasso of pastry's flagship store in Tokyo and one of his largest shops in Japan.

But being the greedy dessert hunters that we're, of course we were not going to be satisfied with some take-away pastries. And that's when Bar Chocolat, an upscale dessert café on the second floor came in.

We started things off with this beautifully decorated piece of cake called Sarah. This was almost like a mille feuille with layers of passion fruit gelee, marron cream, matcha ganache and some nut dacquoise stacking over one other. Very nice.

I have seen pictures of Pierre Hermé's chocolate sphere all over the internet before but experiencing it on my own was something else.

We slowly poured the hot chocolate lava down.....

And when the surface of the sphere finally melted, here's the rest of the "hidden" ingredients including hazelnuts, salted caramel ice-cream, praline cream, Venezuelan chocolate and chocolate brownie. This was real heavy stuff!

And if the chocolate sphere wasn't already heavy enough, we also ordered their caramel iced chocolate.

We are so stuffed right now but wait, we still have a date with 1-star Michelin restaurant Ostü in just a couple of hours.
