Kushiwakamaru 串若丸 (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

This neighborhood yakitori joint has been around for years and it's very popular among the locals, so advance booking is highly recommended. Another way to work around this is to show up real early like we did at 5:30pm (dinner starts at 5pm).

Like most traditional yakitori places, Kushiwakamaru still uses charcoal grill which explains the superb finishing on these lovely skewers.

The staff speaks very fluent English which is always a good thing in Tokyo. Even better is the food menu with all the English translations printed next to each item. That's perfect.

Chicken wings are always popular in any yakitori joint and these ones are just totally sublime.

The chicken breast with onion - not bad.

Bacon and asparagus is another popular choice here.

Kushiwakamaru is far from just a one-trick pony as there is quite a number of options available apart from meat.

We had the grilled scallops with salsa sauce.

.....and grilled prawns with basil. But my recommendation is to stick with the chicken skewers.

Nakameguro is a fairly trendy neighborhood situated along the Meguro River and home to countless small cafes, quirky fashion shops and restaurants. Check it out if you have time to spare in Tokyo!
